The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, & Energy (EGLE) spends more than half of its budget on grants, loans, and other support to local communities across the state.
Now, a new Grants and Loans Dashboard shows exactly where that funding goes – from the Ohio border to the shores of Lake Superior. EGLE also created a companion story map to provide a simple explanation of the dashboard and its functionality.
The interactive dashboard provides access to a rich set of information so users can search for projects funded in their communities and look at funding trends over time. EGLE is currently providing data for FY 2019 and 2020 and plans to add additional years over time.
The money flowing back to municipal governments and other entities helps those communities protect the environment and public health through projects ranging from water treatment equipment upgrades to flood control infrastructure. In FY 2019 and 2020 alone, a total of more than $500 million was disbursed to municipalities and other local entities. In FY 2020, EGLE administered 485 grants through 50 grant programs and 64 loans across four programs.
