The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Climate Smart Communities Grant program provides competitive, 50/50 matching grants for local governments to implement projects focused on climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas mitigation in the non-power sector. Project types also include certain planning and assessment projects that are part of a strategy to achieve Climate Smart Communities Certification.
Up to $10 million is available for grants of between $50,000 and $2 million for implementation projects related to the initiatives including increasing natural resiliency to the effects of climate change, reducing future flood risk, rightsizing culverts and bridges, preparing for extreme heat events, improving emergency preparedness, and more.
