The Washington Department of Ecology is praising Governor Inslee for his “historic” signing of a series of bills this month designed to strengthen environmental protection. Among the bills are the Climate Commitment Act, an environmental justice measure, a clean fuels standard, and bills related to reducing the state’s single-use plastic waste and hydrofluorocarbon pollution.
The bills will have a direct impact on a variety of Ecology’s programs, requiring actions such the establishment of a cap and reducing greenhouse gas emissions with new limits, adopting rules to implement a Clean Fuel Standard by 2023, the development of a refrigerant management program to address leaks, and conducting environmental justice assessments as part of Ecology decision making.
