In November, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) released a Climate Action Plan detailing how the state can prepare for climate change in the decades ahead. The plan is the result of a yearlong process involving residents, businesses, and technical experts. It identifies action areas, such as clean and renewable energy expansion, energy-efficiency measures, and transportation sector transitions, to minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Action areas to maximize resilience to climate change impacts, such as updating or creating state regulations and updating facility design operations, are also included.
This plan will help Delaware meet its current commitment of reducing GHG emissions by at least 26% from 2005 levels by 2025, maximizing resilience to climate change impacts and setting Delaware on a course for continuing climate action in the decades ahead.
