The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is accepting entries for its annual River of Words Contest. The project encourages K-12 students to study a watershed in their environment then express what they discover through art and poetry.
To encourage schools to include science, poetry, and art in the classroom, the project offers a Teachers’ Guide that has suggestions for activities and field trips. Winners are recognized at an awards ceremony, with their art and poetry printed in booklet and shown as part of a traveling exhibit in the state.
This project is part of a larger state water education program, Project WET, which seeks to educate children on the value of water to ensure a sustainable future. [Hanson]
