RecyclingWorks is a Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection-supported technical assistance program that helps businesses and institutions across the state reduce waste generation and disposal, and maximize recycling, composting and reuse. The no-cost program is supported by the Center for EcoTechnology for hotline, email, and website services, and it maintains a searchable Find-a-Recycler database, offers a how-to guide for improving waste programs, and provides guidance on recycling specific materials. Waste reduction activities like recycling and composting can help decrease environmental impact, save money, improve employee morale, and respond to customer demands for sustainable practices.
How was the Project Started?
RecycleWorks was started with funding earned from a program started by the state’s 2008 Green Communities Act. The state identified a need for the program as 50 percent of municipal solid waste in Massachusetts comes from commercial enterprises.
