North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has signed a January 2022 executive order expanding the state’s clean energy and climate agenda by strengthening carbon reduction targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Executive Order 246 also includes environmental justice (EJ) objectives and provisions for community input on EJ, and the development of a clean transportation plan.
The order builds upon Executive Order 80 from 2018, which committed the state to addressing climate change and transitioning to a clean energy economy.
