Last week, the New Jersey Senate passed S. 2515 establishing post-consumer recycled content requirements for rigid plastic containers, glass containers, paper and plastic carryout bags, and plastic trash bags, and prohibiting the sale of polystyrene loose fill packaging. Governor Phil Murphy is expected to sign the bill into law.
The industry-wide mandate goes into effect gradually and aims to address the recycling crisis in the state by stemming the use of virgin plastic and encouraging recycling markets.
