The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has released a final Reduce & Reuse Action Plan focusing on upstream waste generation and strategies to advance the reuse economy while fostering a greater culture of reduce/ reuse/share/repair among Massachusetts residents, businesses, and institutions. Ordered in the Commonwealth’s 2030 Solid Waste Master Plan, this “living document” will periodically be evaluated and revised as MassDEP works on its implementation.
The December 2021 Action Plan was drafted with the help of the Reduce and Reuse Workgroup, which met 12 times between January 2020 and June 2021. The group conducted a robust stakeholder process that included representatives from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, as well as local advocates and private citizens. MassDEP points to an unprecedented level of engagement in this process.
