In a new blog post, Air Quality Awareness Week: How Do I Make My Air Quality Data Count?, Dan Johnson, an air monitoring specialist with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Laboratory & Environmental Assessment Division (LEAD), clarifies the difference between air quality data collected by DEQ and air quality data collected by people with low-cost air quality sensors.
Johnson explains the methods and procedures that LEAD follows to ensure the accuracy of measurements and the frequent maintenance each of their air monitors receives. Johnson also discusses low-cost air quality sensors, how the data can and cannot be used, and resources to encourage the adoption of practices to establish more confidence in the air quality estimates made by low-cost air quality sensors.
