Late summer can often mean an intense wildfire season for the drier, hotter, and more vegetated areas of the country. Because these events can have unfortunate and widespread impacts on the surrounding communities, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality issues regular Smoke Forecasts that provide details on the sources and locations of the smoke, daily weather conditions, and health alerts and potential risks for the neighboring populations. Each forecast also includes graphics and links to other resources like the popular newly launched site Today’s Air, which promotes public awareness on air quality.
