The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment announced this week that the CalEnviroScreen 4.0 Data Dashboard is now live. The new version is an iterative map-focused screening method and tool that looks at cumulative burdens across the state based on indicators related to pollution and to communities and their vulnerability to pollution. Users can now explore the data by location, demographics, and 21 indicators, including new information on children’s lead risk from housing, pesticide use, and more. A report with a detailed description of indicators and methodology is available at the CalEnviroScreen 4.0 website.
ECOS is set to publish a report by the end of this year highlighting various state environmental justice (EJ) and equity efforts, including building community capacity, defining disadvantaged communities, working with local governments, and developing mapping tools.
