The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) says it’s time to ditch go-to gifts like fuzzy socks, gift cards, and plastic toys and replace them with more sustainable ones that can help reduce waste. “Handmade gifts, upcycled items, and gifting experiences can be great ways to start,” TCEQ writes on its Take Care of Texas Blog, a public outreach tool used to connect with communities.
For instance, TCEQ recommends the gift of repairing a beloved item to avoid the purchase of a brand new item. Other non-physical items might include tickets to a concert, festival, or other event.
