Arkansas Uses Art Contest to Promote Water Quality

In partnership with the local government, business, and nonprofit community, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality supports a contest to create semi-permanent storm drain murals that communicate the link between street litter, storm drains, and water quality. Central Arkansas Drain Smart is a public art and environmental education program aimed at making people think twice before disposing of anything down a storm drain. Interested artists submit applications and sketches, and a committee then selects artists to create storm drain murals that are recognized during an unveiling reception. [Hanson]
