The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently shared a fact sheet featuring the agency’s partnerships to address Harmful Cyanobacterial Blooms (HCBs). While the DEQ has been working to improve its understanding of HCBs since 2017, the agency continues to seek information that will help it better determine where blooms will occur and the level of toxicity they may present.
Bolstering the effort are partnerships with other state agencies like Wyoming State Parks, Fish, & Wildlife, and federal agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. Annual monitoring data and satellite imagery from the Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) are helping to direct the DEQ’s efforts.
The DEQ Water Division laboratory also allows the agency to conduct laboratory analysis on water samples.
