In December, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection published a report, An Evaluation of Biosolids Management in Maine and Recommendations for the Future. The report analyzes current and future issues impacting biosolids in the state, as well as the impact that regional facilities could have on the capacity within the state to manage biosolids.
In addition, the document includes a general economic analysis of installing anaerobic digestion and thermal dryers at various scales, and a suggested approach to supporting pilot PFAS treatment technologies in the state for future research and funding at full scale. Finally, the report discusses recommended actions that the Maine state government can take to help address the challenges of biosolids management.
