Last month, newly appointed Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Aurelia Giacometto hosted a pair of town halls during her first week on the job for the department’s more than 700 employees. She shared her vision for the agency, outlining the five tenets that will serve as DEQ’s guiding principles: Striking a Regulatory Balance, Building Our Future, Modernizing for the Next 100 years, Sustainably Developing and Managing Our Natural Resources, and Creating Trust and Being Good Stewards.
The Secretary emphasized that services provided by DEQ are critical to maintaining Louisiana’s economy, reputation, and overall quality of life. The Secretary committed to visiting each of the state’s regions in her first six months on the job, as well as to getting into the field to see projects firsthand. Secretary Giacometto added that DEQ plays a significant role in the relationship between industry sustainably developing the state’s vast natural resources and “Sportsman’s Paradise,” where residents and visitors travel from afar to enjoy Louisiana’s great outdoors.
