The Massachusetts DEP (MassDEP) has launched a Cybersecurity Resource Hub for its public water systems (PWSs). The hub offers: news alerts; information on free cyber assessments, training, and funding and grants; and emergency response planning guidance and tools (such as this poster on how to spot fake or malicious emails).
In late March, MassDEP – in partnership with the Massachusetts Drinking Water State Revolving Fund – announced its $2M Public Water Suppliers Cybersecurity Improvements Grant Program, with grants from $15K to $50K to eligible PWSs that have a cybersecurity risk assessment to proactively mitigate cybersecurity risk and enhance resiliency. Eligible applicants include small systems serving less than 10,000 people or systems located in a defined disadvantaged community and that have operational technology conditions such as hardware and software that detects or causes a change to water treatment. Grant applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through June 1, or until all funds are expended. PWSs are encouraged to use statewide qualified contractors. Information on the grants are also on the Cybersecurity Resource Hub.
