The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE)’s Air Pollution Control Division will propose a rule to the Air Quality Control Commission in early 2025 to reduce methane pollution from municipal solid waste landfills. The division has convened a technical working group to support and inform the rule proposal.
The technical working group will focus on:
- Evaluating methodologies and best practices beyond federal requirements for reducing landfill emissions,
- Assessing enhanced methane monitoring and control requirements for landfills,
- Considering operation and maintenance practices and landfill gas collection and control systems, and
- Streamlining reporting requirements for landfills.
