The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) last week received praise from Governor Pete Ricketts for its work in offering online permitting to customers. In his weekly column, Ricketts commended NDEQ for its customer-friendly practices, saying the department is “providing a higher level of service and trimming costs all while stepping up their commitment to help protect Nebraska’s clean air and clean water.”
Governor Ricketts specifically highlighted the department’s offerings of online applications for, among others, stormwater permits and a number of air quality general construction permits. NDEQ has reinvested the cost savings afforded by these advances into further improvements to permitting programs, and has begun plans to introduce an online incinerator general construction permit application. These advances have reduced processing times from months to an average of one day and have generated interest from other state environmental agencies considering similar offerings.
