The U.S. Department of Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
has named the Montana Department of Environmental Quality Abandoned Mine Lands Program and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation recipients of the Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Awards for their work to reclaim abandoned mines in their respective states.
DEQ received the national Award for the Sand Coulee Water System Restoration Project, and DEP received the Appalachian Region Award for reclaiming a company town in Morgan Township in Green County.
