As discussed at the recent ECOS Fall Meeting in Wheeling, West Virginia, ensuring proper disposal of used tires can be a challenge. To help address that issue, the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has added a new feature to its mobile app that will help citizens, local waste-tire collection centers, and disposal sites near them. The new feature will also help tire dealers, scrap-tire generators, and commercial scrap-tire transporters locate authorized facilities to which they can take waste tires for recycling or disposal.
Arkansas DEQ in 2015 received an ECOS State Program Innovation Award for the initial version of this app and has offered to share the code for the app with other states.
