Minnesota expanded its collection services for agricultural plastics and boat wrap in April, an effort the state has worked to manage for several years. In cooperation with the Recycling Association of Minnesota and a consortium of Minnesota counties and organizations, including the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the Revolution Plastics Company installed 516 new recycling dumpsters on Central Minnesota farms and marinas.
The collection bins are emptied at no cost to farmers and are expected to collect on average 2,000 pounds of plastic (such as bale wrap, silage bags, and new boat protective covers) each year, totaling more than a million pounds of agriculture plastic and boat wrap recycled rather than emptied in landfills, burned, or buried on site. Recycling Plastics now has 2,650 dumpsters in four states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa.
