The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) this July is co-sponsoring the Don’t Waste Food SC Summit, a statewide campaign to increase awareness of the economic, environmental, and social impacts of food waste among public and private sector partners. The summit is part of a greater collaborative community effort, the Food Recovery Initiative, which aims to help the state meet or exceed the national goal of cutting food waste in half by 2030. DHEC hopes the event will educate individuals, businesses, and communities on outreach and technical assistance tools and empower them to promote food waste prevention, donation, and composting.
