The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Solid Waste Alternatives Program (SWAP) offers financial assistance for projects that work to reduce the amount of solid waste generated and landfilled in the state. SWAP provides forgivable and zero- and low-interest loans for public and private sector solid waste management projects that help divert natural resources from the landfill through waste reduction, recycling, reuse and education efforts. The next SWAP application deadline is in July, with another round following in January.
In addition, financial assistance through the Professional Development Assistance (PDA) program will begin accepting applications in July. These financial awards assist in the development and delivery of technical assistance, public awareness, continuing education, and other professional development opportunities to Iowa’s solid waste professionals, educators, and others. Applications for the PDA program are accepted on an ongoing basis. Additional PDA information can be found here.
If your state is interested in establishing a program like SWAP, contact Tom Anderson of Iowa DNR for more information.
