Kentucky’s Department of Environmental Protection, partnered with other state and federal agencies such as the Kentucky Department for Public Health and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to create an online tool to educate the public about Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in waterways across the state. This interactive map, which can be found on Kentucky’s Geographic Information System’s Website, displays every waterway in the state that shows signs of a HAB, including their statuses and health risks.
This tool and new educational signs at waterways that have had HABs will help inform the public about ways to avoid the risks associated with HABs. For more information, see this article in the Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet’s Webzine Land, Air & Water.
