From June 2-4, the Delaware Open Data Challenge Hackathon Weekend will seek to encourage innovative solutions that address a civic or business challenge by supporting the development and launch of technical applications that utilize open data. Governor John Carney will join teams of coders Saturday as the state seeks to operate more efficiently and better connect Delawareans with the work of their state government. This event is the first in a series for the Governor’s initiative and Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is a member of the Open Data Council. The DNREC and Delaware Department of Transportation have already committed to supporting a second event.
The Delaware Open Data portal has information from many state agencies including a number of energy and environment datasets. Fellowship grants are being offered by the Delaware Department of State to winning teams that create new applications using at least one dataset publicly available on the portal. The grants are designed to enable recipients to take their prototype into production.
