Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper announced last week that the state has joined a growing number of states committed to meeting the carbon emission reduction targets that were established under the Paris Agreement.
The Governor also signed an executive order to put the state on the path to meeting the following climate goals:
- Reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions by more than 26 percent from 2005 levels by 2025;
- Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 25 percent by 2025 and 35 percent by 2030 from 2012 levels; and
- Achieve electricity savings of two percent of total electricity sales per year in 2020.
Colorado joins the following states and territories as members of the U.S. Climate Alliance: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
