The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Water Quality Division received U.S. EPA approval in September of designated use changes of any low-flow stream channels in Wyoming for secondary contact recreation. Secondary contact recreation includes activities in which people have limited contact with the water. As Wyoming has thousands of low-flow channels and ditches that do not have sufficient water to support full body immersion, this new designated use agreement is consistent with EPA’s implementing regulations and the state’s common sense approach to protecting its water resources.
DEQ submitted the designated use changes, rationale, and technical analysis to EPA in November 2016. More information can be found here.
