In preparation for the 2018 hurricane season, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, along with other state and federal agencies, participated in an annual hurricane response exercise. The training, organized by the Natural Disaster Operational Workgroup, provided agency staff valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to coordinate with other federal and state agencies who respond to disasters and to implement lessons learned from Hurricane Harvey.
In the exercise, participants were asked to locate containers that simulated environmental hazards, conduct an initial analysis of their contents, tag items and use a tablet to enter information into the Response Manager database created by the U.S. EPA.
