A new webpage launched this month by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality displays the state’s health advisories for swimming and fish consumption in a clickable, interactive map format. The map includes information on 58 water bodies throughout Louisiana, including the 1,200 square mile section of state waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
For each water body, users can click on an icon to read advisories about whether it’s safe to swim there or eat fish caught there. Each icon includes information on advisory dates, precise geographic information, the specific pollutants and/or fish that are most problematic, and recommendations for safe fish consumption.
