This ECOS Green Report highlights best practices in tribal and rural waste management, specifically addressing how tribes have started curbside trash and recycling programs, have worked to reduce illegal dumping, and have conducted education and outreach on waste management.
ECOS hosted a corresponding webinar to highlight best practices for managing solid waste on tribal and rural lands. A recording of the webinar is available here.
Presentations included:
- Santo Domingo Tribe’s efforts to reduce illegal dumping through digital storytelling
- Snoqualmie Indian Tribe’s partnership with the City of North Bend to host an annual recycling event
- Choctaw Nation’s work to reduce waste by establishing two recycling centers and conducting community outreach
The Green Report and webinar are the products of a research project to document innovations in rural waste management. ECOS completed this work under a cooperative agreement with U.S. EPA’s Office of International and Tribal Affairs.
