To combat the impacts of invasive species, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) created and supports the Bureau of Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health (BISEH) and has designated June 7-13 as Invasive Species Awareness Week. BISEH works across the state by providing expertise, assistance, and action where invasive species are a threat. In addition, it collaborates with numerous stakeholders including state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and industries.
Invasive species are non-native species that can cause harm to the environment, the economy, or human health. Such species can come from as close as a few states away or as far as across the globe.
