The Wisconsin PFAS Action Council (WisPAC) in December released a statewide PFAS Action Plan to outline how the state plans to address the use of and contamination from PFAS chemicals. Led by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and comprised of nearly 20 other state agencies and the University of Wisconsin system, WisPAC in its report sets 25 action items, each of which contains and overview of what would be required to bring it to fruition (i.e., budgetary, legislative, and staffing needs).
Highlights include: developing PFAS standards in various environmental media; creating a risk communication infrastructure; streamlining processes for delivering safe drinking water supplies to impacted communities; and supporting veterans and those who live near military sites and may have a higher risk of exposure to PFAS.
The plan is one of the initiatives outlined in Governor Tony Evers’ August 2019 Executive Order #40 on the public health risk from PFAS and the creation of the state PFAS coordinating council.
