The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) closed out 2020 by sharing its Year in Review, reflecting on its 2020 “key actions to protect the environment and health of all North Carolinians and to address the impacts of climate change.”
The DEQ notes significant achievements in the areas of coal ash excavation, development of the North Carolina Risk Assessment and Resilience Plan to address vulnerability to climate change, holding a private entity responsible for PFAS contamination, and modifying operations in response to the ongoing pandemic. The review also includes accomplishments in infrastructure investment, disaster response, and environmental justice.
