The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has published Celebrating 40 Years, a report highlighting key accomplishments of the department as it marks its anniversary.
In an opening letter in the document, Director Lance LeFleur notes that since the creation of ADEM, harmful air emissions in Alabama have declined by 83%, that 82% of previously impaired waterbodies are now meeting water quality standards, and that all unlined municipal solid waste landfills in the state have been closed and replaced with state-of-the-art lined landfills.
The report goes on to detail accomplishments in the major offices of the agency and to highlight anticipated future actions.
