The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has completed the installation of a new air monitor in Mobile for particulate matter of 10 micrometers (PM10) or less. ADEM installed this monitor in response to concerns about airborne dust raised by residents of downtown Mobile. Data collected from the monitor will provide city residents with information about whether the dust is impacting air quality in the area.
Through an agreement with the city of Mobile, the monitor is sited in a city park. Funding for the purchase and installation of the monitor was provided by U.S. EPA. ADEM will fund operations and maintenance of the monitor.
