The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) received not one — but two — awards this week.
The first is the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association’s 2021 Exemplary Systems in Government Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by government agencies in the use of geospatial information technology. ADEQ won for its Mobile Compliance Inspections for Waste Programs entry in the Single Process Systems category, meaning the system was used by just one agency. The program is geared toward improving efficiency of the agency’s waste program’s manual and paper-based workflows for performing field compliance inspections. Read about the award and program here.
DEQ’s second win was the Superior Civic Engagement Award in the Granicus 2021 U.S. Digital Government Award program. ADEQ developed a new section of its website called “My Community” dedicated to information about community environmental issues and actions from the agency. The online tool includes a demographic and environmental data dashboard for residents to filter by county the information on air quality, water quality, sites of concern, and more.
