Last week the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and the California Regional Water Board reported that state and local government agencies around Lake Tahoe surpassed 2019 pollution prevention targets aimed at restoring the lake’s crystal clear water. The state agencies worked together to reduce urban stormwater runoff that is the source of fine particulate matter that reduces clarity. The annual report on stormwater efforts indicates that the partners reduced fine particulate sediments by 477,000 pounds in 2019.
Actions taken to address the fine particulates in urban stormwater runoff include controlling runoff from homes and businesses, installing stormwater treatment systems, and using environmentally friendly wintertime road operations.
