The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) on May 10 banned the pesticide Chlorpyrifos, known on the market as Lorsban.
Chlorpyrifos is used on a wide variety of crops as a last line of defense against certain insects but has been found in numerous studies to hinder brain development in children. The chemical was initially targeted for phase-out by U.S. EPA in 2016, but this decision was reversed under the current Administration, leaving the matter to states to individually regulate.
California lawmakers are considering a ban by legislation in addition to the CalEPA action.
