This week, the District of Columbia (DC) Department of Energy and Environment awarded a grant to develop a volunteer-based program that will monitor levels of bacteria in DC’s surface waters. The monitoring program will help evaluate the success of recent efforts to improve the condition of the Anacostia River, including the completion of the Anacostia River Tunnel.
Volunteers from around the District will collect data from May to September and make the data available on an online portal.
