DC Water has completed construction of its second of four tunnels in the Anacostia River Project which will help mitigate combined sewer overflows that would otherwise end up in the Anacostia River. The tunnel will divert the raw sewage to the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant for treatment prior to discharge into the Potomac River.
The project is part of DC”s campaign to make 2018 the Year of the Anacostia, celebrating progress made to clean up the riverfront and look ahead to create a vibrant, healthy, and thriving civic space in the heart of the District.
