The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) has funded ten tree-planting projects throughout the state as part of its ‘Tree for Every Delawarean’ Initiative (TEDI), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s Delaware Forest Service. A combined $234,000 was awarded to municipalities, nonprofits, and other organizations to plant more than 4,600 trees in Spring 2025. In addition, TEDI recently held seven tree giveaway events, distributing 3,250 trees to be planted on private property.
Through TEDI, DNREC aims to plant one million trees between 2020 and 2030 as part of Delaware’s Climate Action Plan, and more than 250,000 trees have been planted so far. DNREC maintains an online TEDI Tracker, where agencies, organizations, and residents can input details about newly planted trees and access resources and training opportunities on tree selection, planting techniques, and tree maintenance. TEDI has also published an information center for tree-planting funding resources, compiling grants from several state agencies that are available to residents, community associations, NGOs, parks, schools, and local governments.
