On November 2nd, 2023, the ECOS Environmental Justice (EJ) Workgroup and Esri hosted a joint workshop covering strategies for developing state EJ mapping tools, facilitating EJ screenings and participating in successful community engagement practices. The workshop included a presentation from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on the creation of New Jersey’s EJMAP tool, as well as a tutorial from Esri on ArcGIS’s “Calculate Composite Index” tool and creating an environmental justice index.
