Hawaii Governor Josh Green recently signed an executive order to implement Operation Hire Hawaiʻi (OH-HI), a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited state hiring process that fast-tracks qualified displaced federal employees and others into state job opportunities. The project aims to provide opportunities for individuals impacted by layoffs, resignations, loss of federal funding, and other interested job seekers.
The new hiring initiative will provide outreach, job placement assistance, and career transition support for OH-HI candidates, who will be referred immediately to hiring agencies for consideration.
The order directs state agencies such as the Hawaii State Department of Health to review job requirements and adjust recruitment strategies as appropriate to ensure that relevant experience is fully recognized in hiring decisions. The state will also explore alternative pathways, such as direct appointments and temporary-to-permanent employment programs, to facilitate swift onboarding.
