Pairing students with top Iowa companies working to achieve economic and environmental results, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Pollution Prevention Intern program offers hands-on paid internships that introduce young people to project management. Interns apply acquired technical skills to their assigned project to assess a process or a system, identify opportunities, research and recommend alternative options, and implement improvements. Their professional development is enhanced by the experience of working on multi-functional teams promoting long-term sustainability. Common projects address boiler efficiencies, compressed air systems, HVAC system efficiencies, motor efficiencies, water conservation, water and wastewater treatment, process improvements, solid and hazardous waste reduction, and alternative energy.
