The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is hosting four half-day workshops in May and June 2022 to spotlight local food waste recycling initiatives. The free public events will focus on developing tools to help communities successfully initiate food scrap recovery programs that reduce overall disposal costs, decrease reliance on landfills, improve community health, and enhance local soil health.
The DEP is working with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry and the University of Maine Mitchell Center for Sustainable Solutions to hold the workshops throughout the state in Auburn, Caribou, Cumberland, and Kennebunk.
