Last week, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) hosted its second annual MI Healthy Climate Conference. EGLE Director Phil Roos welcomed nearly 900 attendees with keynote remarks framed around the conference theme of “Accelerating Action”.
The wide-ranging program featured over 100 speakers focused on encouraging further implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition Michigan toward carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition to panel discussions and presentations, conference-goers heard major announcements on clean energy investment from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II.
In a panel on “Climate Planning through the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program,” Liesl Clark, Director of Climate Action at University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability and ECOS Alum, touted the release of a new report entitled “Life is Better By the Lakes.” The report delves into CPRG Priority Climate Action Plans (PCAPs) in the Great Lakes region to uncover common themes and potential partnership opportunities that may accelerate decarbonization efforts and position the Great Lakes region as a leader in climate action.
