Last week, ECOS Cross-Media Committee Chair and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Commissioner Katrina Kessler joined other Minnesota state leaders to celebrate the work of three Minnesota-based companies already making their products without PFAS. The celebration marked 100 days until the state’s 2023 PFAS Prevention Act becomes effective on January 1, 2025. The Act, also known as Amara’s Law, mandates that 11 categories of consumer products be made without PFAS in order to be sold in or distributed for sale in Minnesota. By 2032, the state will ban nonessential use of PFAS in other products.
At the event, Kessler and other leaders from MPCA and the Minnesota Department of Health joined company leaders from Sigma Beauty, Nordic Ware, and Faribault Mill to highlight benefits and business opportunities ahead of the new law. They also published a YouTube video about the companies and MPCA’s efforts to minimize PFAS pollution. MPCA has a public webpage to help residents learn more about what these laws mean for them and their future purchases.
