The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is now accepting applications for Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants. There are two offerings for the cost and delivery of scrap tire surface material in FY17: Non-Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants, made available for running tracks, walking trails, equine stalls and riding areas, among other projects, and Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants, for playground-only projects.
The grant offerings for this sustainable recycling, circular-economy effort are made possible by 50-cent scrap tire fees collected on the sale of new tires in the state. Revenues generated from the fee are deposited into the Scrap Tire Subaccount of the Solid Waste Fund. These funds are then used for enforcement, permitting,inspection, grants, and education.
Applications for the FY17 surface material grants are due in May, and award recipients are expected to be announced this summer. More information can be found here.
